Aussie ! memories- 1, a day at Bangkok

Just before midnight on the 14th of May 2010, we boarded the Thai Airways flight to Bangkok from Hyderabad. Not only did we land quite early in the morning, if i recall correctly I think it was at about 5 am in Bangkok, but also lost about an hour and a half flying east. So all-in-all we could hardly catch a wink. But once you land in a foreign country, sleep is the last thing on mind. We had to first run from pillar to post for forms that were not to be found for the temporary Thai VISA and then go through the immigration formalities. it was easier in my case coz I was on a Diplomatic passport but the spouses had to go through the Q's. The Thai airport staff were definitely not what their ads show them as. They don't speak a word of English.... never mind that.. but they are not friendly either. Once we were through with these formalities, we got on to our buses and were taken to the Novotel Hotel. The moment I entered the room, the bed, the view through the window were just so inviting.. didn't realize when I took off my shoes and dozed off. It must have been about 11 am in the morning, I just remember Deepu was waking me up, telling that the last bus for the city tour of Bangkok was leaving. Having no choice, I reluctantly woke up, got ready and rushed down to catch the last bus. We missed our breakfast and we were on the bus for the tour. We went around the city visiting some famous temples, monuments and a gem cutting factory and finally landed at a busy shopping mall for lunch. We caught up with some Thai food at a place there, but we didn't like it much. We returned to the hotel room by evening and back to sleep. by 9 in the evening we were packed again and ready for our pre-midnight flight to Sydney. We caught the flight on time, but this time after a small amount of commotion at the airport, when some of us were asked by the Thai airways to cough up some extra money in the name of Airport fee (if i recall correctly).
